PYT’s SPRING MUSICAL!
Students enrolled in acting, vocal, dance (or any combination of the three disciplines) are eligible to take part in our spring musical, Into the Woods. Both our Juniors (elementary/middle school) and Seniors (high school) will be performing this title, but in separate, age-appropriate productions. Please note that eighth grade students may choose to audition for either the Junior Show or the Senior Show. Our Juniors will be performing an abridged version of the musical and our seniors will be performing the full version. The musicals are offered as separate classes from our technique classes. Students must be enrolled in a technique class in order to participate in the spring musical. Please see information below about each show:

Preparation: For auditions, students should prepare a verse and chorus of a song in the style of the show that shows their range as an actor and singer. Students should use an instrumental track of their choice (karaoke tracks are available for free on YouTube). Students should not sing a song from Into the Woods for their auditions, please. In order for students to fully connect to their song, we ask that they not hold a lyric sheet or sheet music during their audition. There will be no dance call for this audition, but students may be asked about their comfort with dance and movement in their audition. Students will receive callback information and materials via email on Saturday evening, 2/8. Casting will be announced at 4:00 PM on Friday, February 14th via email.

SENIOR PRODUCTION
Eligibility: High school students currently enrolled in acting, vocal, or dance classes through PYT. Eighth grade students may choose whether they’d like to be considered for this show or our junior show.

An additional $25 script fee is charged by Music Theater International, but students are permitted to keep their scripts and write in them.
Auditions / Callbacks:

*** If a student has any inflexible conflicts with the audition or callback days, please reach out to us directly so we can be sure to accommodate their needs.***
Initial audition information:
We will begin promptly with a brief dance call, followed by seeing each actor sing a brief song (approx. 1 minute) of their choice. Please choose a song that showcases your vocal strengths at this time, and allows for some acting moments. You will sing one-by-one in the room. We encourage you to make big choices and take risks! For the dance call, please wear clothes that are comfortable for you to move in, and please wear sneakers or jazz shoes.
Callback information:
We will begin promptly by hearing people read and sing. You will sing and read one at a time in the audition room - a reader will be available for you in scenes. FOR THIS AUDITION PROCESS, WE WILL NOT BE ASSIGNING ROLES FOR CALLBACKS. Instead, please select TWO roles for which you would like to read. Callback sides for each character are available in the Google Drive link. We would like actors to think of their authentic selves in the world of this show, and select up to two (2) characters they feel they could confidently bring to life with their current level of skill and ability. Please select roles you feel you could confidently perform with your current ability in singing, acting, and dancing. Please note that some roles have a song AND a scene for callbacks. Please only come in reading an acting side if the character you are calling yourself back for is in the scene. If the character you’re auditioning for does not have an acting callback side listed, you do not need to prepare any scenes. ***IMPORTANT- your callback selections do NOT guarantee a particular role. We promise to CONSIDER you for the roles.***
Post-Callback Information:
We will be filling out feedback forms for each student during the audition process. After auditions conclude, students will be emailed their final feedback in the areas of singing, acting, and dance. We hope that this will help our students understand their strengths and where we see areas for growth. Casting will be announced via email after Junior callbacks conclude on February 14th at 4:00 PM.
Rehearsals:
Sundays - 1:30-5:30 PM. Rehearsals may be extended as needed, and Saturday afternoon rehearsals will be called as needed. Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, February 23rd and run through performances in June. Students will have off for holiday/vacation closings. Additional rehearsals will be called as needed, but we will work around conflicts. When rehearsals begin, we will ask for a list of any Saturday and Sunday conflicts that you have between February and June. Please double check school or studio calendars for any competitions, cabarets, or additional performances to which you’ve already committed. We want to make sure we make a schedule that allows for everyone’s availability. Thank you in advance!
